LAPP was created as a way to bring everyone interested in working together to address at the grassroots,
community level, the needs of our time, such as; finding ways to become self reliant in terms of providing
our food and energy needs as a geographical region and thrive as a community in all ways - socially, economically,
environmentally, culturally and even spiritually as our physical needs for food and energy are met right here where
we all live and by the light work of many hands coming together.
LAPP invites anyone and everyone interested in a sustainable Boothbay Region to come together to figure out
and carry out new ways of doing things locally, such as; establishing an abundant community garden in a central
location (behind Boothbay Region Elementary School is a perfect site that is being considered) and using four season
growing to provide ourselves with organic, affordable vegetables all year round. Plans for using wind and a local solar
panel company are being discussed for the area. Inventing our own local currency ("Boothbay Bucks") and tracking
the flow of the money as it stays circulating within our community is also being discussed as a fun, tangible experiment
in supporting a thriving local economy. The possibilities and creativity of the "collective genius" of our coming together
to address such a challenge as building a strong, resilient, thriving Boothbay Region are endlessly exciting.
This excitement and the possibility of living the dream of true local connection, collaboration, inter-dependence and
independence as a region on as many levels as possible is part of the fuel that drives me to continue this work
that is being engaged in communities all over Maine, New England, the country and the world. It is about time.
I have wanted this my entire life!
LAPP has the support and resource of a large grassroots movement that is moving in the direction of local sustainability
and resilience all over the world. For us to join this rising green movement is simply the smartest and most enjoyable
decision we could make as a community.
I look forward to the creative "play" ahead of us and to living the dream of being in a
community that is focussed on this common vision.
Stay tuned in as the work of LAPP grows and please consider joining the fun!
